Kircher’s perpetual lunar calendar, showing the phases of the Moon as two spirals which are mirror images of each other. Luna Crescens, the Waxing Moon, below, expands from the centre, while Luna Decrescens, the Waning Moon, above, contracts to its centre. The cycle of 28 phases of the Moon forms the outer rim of the oval.
